Following the positive response to our last blog post about the importance of reading with your child, we’ve received inquiries about fun and easy home activities centred around books. We’re excited to share some delightful ideas throughout the summer, both on our Instagram page and here on our website.
This week’s featured book is the beloved classic, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” by Eric Carle. Chances are, many of you already have this wonderful book at home!
Let’s explore two engaging activities inspired by this book:
Sensory Bottles: A Multi-Sensory Adventure
- Invite your child to help create a captivating sensory bottle.
- Use rice, grains, or beans to fill the bottle and add a touch of intrigue.
- For an exciting I Spy game, try finding small bear buttons (if you don’t have this don’t worry)
- You can just try find objects that match the colours of each animal in the book (red, yellow, gold, green, purple, brown, white) pompoms or beads work just fine
Colouring Activity: Bring the Book to Life
- Print out our colouring book printable
- Choose big crayons to provide ease of grip for those tiny hands.
- Before diving into colouring, discuss with your child questions to encourage memory recall of the story. For example, “What colour was the bird?” or “Which animal comes next?”
- Add an exciting matching game element: print out our matching cards printable
- Cut them into separate square tiles.
- Flip the squares over and challenge your child to match each animal with the corresponding colour text (or adjust the game to your child’s level and liking!) there are so many ways you can use these cards!
We’ll be sharing these activity ideas and more on our website, along with downloadable printables (if applicable) for parents to make the experience even more enjoyable!
